Based in Togo and hailing from Nigeria, Fashion Designer Grace Wallace is one of the most successful Business Women Africa will ever know. Eight (8) years ago, she broke into the fashion industry with a dream of launching her brand and has, since, gained much attention around the continent and has built a solid clientele since then. With her very modern and yet traditional pieces translating the African culture, Grace Wallace has turned out to be one of the top Fashion Designers in Togo.
As a Creative Director and the brains behind the label “KILIMANDJARO FASHION,” better known as “KIL FASHION by GRACE WALLACE,” Fashion Designer Grace Wallace is a cheerful woman, hard-working soul who believes in achieving great results through hard work, professionalism, creativity and, finally, in building a powerful empire on African soil while insuring that her customer satisfaction comes above all.
Grace Wallace’s childhood was filled with big memories and big aspirations. As a young child growing under the African sun, Grace Wallace dreamt of becoming a professional Fashion Designer, later in life. To achieve this dream, she started by nurturing her passion for fashion, taking up fashion training and by making use of loincloth wax which were one of the most affordable materials, at the time, mixing it with chiffon, silk, rich Bazin, velvet, lace, sails and more. Today, Grace Wallace is a pure reflection of yesterday’s vision: “I always look for beauty in all the outfits that I create and I always feel like an outfit can never be complete because there is always room for improvement. I draw a lot and I accompany my embroiderers and designers through the achievement to get the effect we want. Every piece has to be perfect and we, as a team, have to feel proud of our work first before we present it to the world. Perfection is at the core of our business and I am grateful for all the achievements, so far.”
With a fashion studio in Africa, Grace Wallace feels the need of further expanding her brand. She is aware of her brand’s potential today and she feels that: “I can inspire people throughout my work, and that is very much important to send the right message out there about my vision of today’s fashion. I am also inspired by European fashion industry, overall, and I try to accommodate everyone.”
Celebrities who have blessed her brand with their presence have often said that Grace Wallace embroidery technique has an “unusual brilliance and its sparkle stones inlaid truly.” This explains her attention to details and her professionalism. Even though the encrusted Swarovski crystal stones used in some of her previous collections were hand-picked in Australia, the Designer felt that she did not have to use them systematically in the entire collection because everyone may not always appreciate the “bling trend.”
As she continues to strive upon the realization of her long-term goals, Grace Wallace feels that only hard work can take her places and as an Entrepreneur, she makes sure her brand gets distributed worldwide through clothing stores and selected digital platforms. To this date, “KIL FASHION by GRACE WALLACE” products can be purchased in Burkina Faso, in Benin, in Senegal. And, the upcoming launch of her e-commerce website ( http://www.wallacegrace.com ) is set out to be one of the most important highlights of the year 2014.
When Grace Wallace is designing, she is inspired by shape, architecture, and color. Every design focuses on flattering a real woman’s body. Her technical knowledge of a garment’s proper fit and design, combined with her innate creative abilities, results in an effortless and wearable line that reflect the kind of woman she is herself; strong, classy, fun, and fearless.
Grace Wallace believes in the importance of community involvement, inspiring others and giving back. When she is not designing, she is an ambassador for different NGOs and charity organizations in Africa and. As a certified mentor, she continues to provide guidance in helping other young, aspiring fashion designers realize their dreams. ◘
